More than 70% of the rum sold in the United States is distilled in Puerto Rico. It is a share almost no product from almost anywhere holds over a market that size.
In July 2025 the island's total exports reached 7,168 million dollars, the highest level of the year and the third highest on record, 44.3% above the same month a year earlier.
Inside the island the order is different from outside: the best-selling brand here is Don Q, not Bacardí. It is a small detail and it says something about the difference between manufacturing for a market and belonging to one.
